Portrait Series: Young Poets

UNC Poets

Hallie Brew is a senior studying pre-law. She is in an intermediate poetry class at UNC and writes frequently about mental health. Her mother was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Syd is a junior transfer student from California. She writes about queerness, longing and memory. “Coming into a college midway through is weird,” she said. “I definitely feel like an outsider.”

Hannah studies communications at UNC. She began brewing her own mead last fall and is currently working on a cranberry orange batch for the holidays.

Campbell Warren is a junior English major at UNC. She predominately writes fiction, crafting stories based on overheard phrases that spark her curiosity. “Sometimes my mom will say something odd and I’m like, man, that’s a story,” she said.
